The authors describe the target group for disability compensating technologies, they analyse the political, legal and socio-economic framework for their use at the workplace and outline the potentials and trends of innovative and prospective technologies.

New technological developments often give the disabled hope for a better social participation and integration into working environment. This technological potential will have the stronger impact the better one manages to adapt to the conditions, normative basis and interactive connections at the workplace to the extensive evaluation of actual individual abilities and to necessary actions of the relevant social institutions. From this perspective, this book describes for the first time in a comprehensive manner, how technology can best support individual abilities and avoid or compensate disabilities. It is further discussed how it can be managed to shape environmental conditions so that they represent the smallest possible barriers to lifestyles and to social participation for disabled people.
