EPTA Directors' Meeting in Angers, France

As part of this year's French EPTA presidency, the directors of 16 member institutions met in Angers on May 12 and 13 to exchange ideas

Some members joined the EPTA Directors' Meeting in Angers, France, via the internet.

Three members of the Parliamentary Office for the Evaluation of Scientific and Technological Choices OPECST (Office Parlementaire d'Evaluation des Choix Scientifiques et Technologiques), which advises both the Senate and the National Assembly of the French Parliament, discussed the results and implications of recent studies with the EPTA directors. Stephane Piednoir, OPECST President, presented OPECST's activities in the field of nuclear energy, Pierre Henriet (First Vice-President) spoke about research integrity and Philippe Bolo presented the results of the report on plastic pollution. During the meeting, the delegates also visited the Institute for Horticultural and Seed Research, the "Vegapolys Valley" competitiveness cluster, the French Institute of Wine and Viticulture and the "Food Products and Processes" research department.

This year's autumn meeting of the EPTA network will take place on 13 October in Paris. The highly topical subject of "Transformation of the energy mix" is on the agenda. Greece is expected to take over the EPTA presidency next year, pending formal confirmation by the EPTA Council.

The currently 25 member institutions of the EPTA network advise parliaments on the potential social, economic and environmental impact of new scientific and technological developments. They aim to provide impartial, high-quality accounts and reports on issues such as for example bioethics and biotechnology, public health, environment and energy, ICTs, and R&D policy and to strengthen the links between TA units in Europe and other countries.
